So one of my pet peeves about REALbasic is that a lot of the APIs are old, outdated, made only for Mac (and usually Classic at that!) and otherwise just misnamed. For example, what the hell is a "GrowIcon"? It means nothing to me. Well, it means that the window is resizeable. Because that makes sense. GrowIcon... resizeable... Whatever.
In any case, I finally got tired of having this bug up my ass after closing about the 15th report this month of people mis-using Window.MenuBarVisible (which, btw, doesn't affect just the menu bar. It actually hides all the system UI as well, like the start bar). So I sent around my gripe list of mis-named APIs, and what do you know, most people agreed with me! Wahoo! There are, as always, a few objections to some of the items being renamed (sadly, one of them is MenuBarVisible, but it's just because no one can come up with a decent name for it, and someone is against breaking code by splitting it into two properties... which is what it should have been in the first place).
Needless to say, now that I've gone through and taken a look at the string of release notes I've written... not only am I proud of the fact that we'll now have better named APIs in many instances, but I am amazed at how much stuff we had poor names for in the first place. Seriously, there's 9 release notes that cover almost 20 different APIs. And I'm sure more will crop up (especially since we haven't finished figuring out new names for some things).
So it's been a productive day of renaming APIs. Heh. Next on my list of things to work on (which has been there for a while) is making console applications work in RB 6. This is actually going to be a huge undertaking unfortunately, so I'm not looking forward to it too much. :-/ But such is the life of rewriting a major application in a new language.
Would you host some pictures for me if I made a donation to the Aaron Ballman fund for your website?
oh...AND NO IT'S NOT PORN!!!!...cause I know that's what you would've asked me =oP ::laughs::
Depends on how much space they take up, but I'd prolly be down with it. You don't even need to donate Lou. ;-)
But it would make me feel better...cause I'm using your space...and you said that space costs money...so...I figured I would help.
I'll tell you what. You lemme know what it is I'm hosting for you (content and size, etc), and you don't have to do it here on the blog btw, and if it seems like a decent amount of stuff, we can work a figure out. If it doesn't seem like too much, then we won't worry about it and you can buy me a beer when I visit. Sound good?
