So I added a new feature to WordPress -- I don't like that the entire post shows up on the main page. This causes for a lot of clutter and a ton of reading. So now I have it set up so that it will only show you an excerpt of the content on the main page, and you must click the title of the post if you want to read more.
I am wondering what everyone thinks of the new format. Do you like the fact that you don't have so much clutter? Do you mind having to click the title to see the whole post? Is that intuitive enough for you?
I did this mostly because otherwise any private posts that I have don't give an explanation of what the post is about or why I decided to make it private. This way I can display an excerpt (and it may not be the actual post text) and it will do more than just show up with the password field and that's all. That and the clutter was beginning to bother me.
Also, can anyone find errors with the new format such as content that used to be there no longer showing up, or something like that? I did some pretty good testing on it and everything seems to be working in my tests. But the more eyes the better.
There is still a problem when the comment text box becomes active, in IE6, it extends behind the menu on the right.
It creates problems when you write the few words that fit behind the menu.
Otherwise, you drive YOUR blog ;) Readers will read if they like the layout or not
I guess since I use FireFox and Safari I never saw that problem. Hell, I only have IE 5 installed on my system. ;-)
I realize that I am the owner of the blog, but I don't want to swap formats in the middle and have everyone hate it without giving them a chance to at least express the hate. If people don't like it, I can change it. If they do like it, then good.
Yeah...the comment bar extends behind the menu...which is fine because I usually spell what I need to say correctly...and if I don't then I just don't care cause I'm sure you get the idea of what I was trying to say there.
it would be cool to have the full post in the rss feed :)
Steve -- well I'll be dipped. I never changed the RSS stuff, but I never knew it did excerpt mode by default. I just checked my own feed and sure enough, everything shows up in excerpt mode. So I did a few tests and it's always done that. Ooh ooh, it's a feature, not a bug! :-D
HAHAHAHA...you need to remember to sign your name fool...and don't get me started on stuffed animals =oP
So I checked into the "problem" of the mysteriously expanding EditField in the comments field -- it's an IE 6 bug with forms. I may be able to hack the CSS for IE 6, but frankly, I just don't care enough to want to. Just go get FireFox and solve all your problems
BAH! Firefox RULES! :)
