Thank goodness for the weekend

For whatever reason, I've been getting really poor sleep lately. It's not that I'm not getting enough of it (I get about 7 hours on average), it's that I never wake up feeling rested. So today I slept in until about noon. I feel lazy, but a lot better!

I've been doing more work on the Win32 Declare Library. Just added complete control over tooltips so you can do things like change their background color, text color, delay times, etc. I thought I had a bug with my code though since the tips would show up great until I clicked on whatever widget was being tipped. Then the tips wouldn't show up again. Well, it turns out that this is actually the behavior of the OS and you have to do some workarounds to get tooltips to behave otherwise. Yeesh! I bet I spent two hours tracking down a non-bug! And I still haven't come up with a new name for the library yet...

Lis is coming over tonight and we're going to carve some pumpkins and possibly watch the Great Escape. It should be a fun evening! She has a mondo-huge test to mess with on Monday, so she may not stay too late, but at least we'll get to hang out.

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous down here lately. In the morning it's about 55 and it gets to be about 75 during the day. Perfect reading weather. I am hoping to head to the bookstore sometime this weekend to pick up some new books to read. I'm currently finishing up reading 10 plays by Euripedes. It's interesting to go back and read some of the classics when I don't have to read them to report on them. It's actually quite enjoyable now! Weird.

Lis' mom is bringing Pumpkin back to Houston with her this weekend. So everybody say goodbye to the cute white kitty since we won't be seeing him too much anymore. :-( It's kinda sad cuz he's such a cuddle-kitty. But he'll be happier there since he'll have two girlfriends and a big yard to play in.

Today's question of the day is: what makes chlorophyll green instead of some other color? Is there something about green that just makes it better at capturing energy?

Yes

Lol thanks for your insight Lou. ;-) Care to explain?

::laughs:: thought you'd get a kick out of that...I don't have any insight right now...but here is a question...according to science...things show color only because they REFLECT such color's frequency...so...the plant is not really absorbing anything green, so much as it's reflecting the green wavelength...so...why would it absorb all other wavelengths only to reflect the green one...huh?...I don't know what I'm talking about =oP...I'm tired...it's been a long day at work.

That's a very good point. Perhaps it has something to do with green simply not having enough energy to matter much. But I would guess that the plant would want as much energy as possible, so it would reflect no colors...

Maybe we're thinking about it wrong. Maybe it reflects green as a way to attract insects to pollinate it?

ok guys,
Chlorophyll is this green pigment which is inside the cholorplasts.
choloraphyll a is what takes solor energy and converts it to chemical energy. And lou is totally right, the color that we see is the color that is reflected back to us and not absorbed. And green doesnt attract insects. And not all plants need insects to pollinate it. OK, I dont even think this is what your question is about, but too bad, I need to go study more genetics, ugh!!

Oh yeah...I forgot that not all plants need insects to polinate...they are asexual...I think...so very very tired...but doing laundry.

Good points hon. But you're right -- you didn't answer my question. All I really want to know is: why green?
