I went out to the job site this morning to waterproof the footings. Dad told me it should take about 2 hrs and about 2.5 gallons of waterproof to get the job done.
7 gallons of waterproof and 5 hours later....
I got there about 9am (little before), and started right in. Had to mix the waterproof by hand (mistake #1), so that took about 20 minutes. Then I had to clean the footings off with a hand broom instead of a decent sized one (mistake #2). So I'd clean off a section, then waterproof it; just work my way around the building like that. So I started on the footings for the stairs (mistake #3 -- stairs and garage don't need waterproofing, which I learned later in the day). By about 11:30 I realized that I was damn thirsty and had no water and my hands hurt from the brush (mistakes #4 and 5 ), so I went to the local Ace and got some more supplies. Had lunch with dad around noon, which is when I learned about the stairs and the garage (thankfully, I hadn't started on the garage yet). I ended up finishing the footings a little before 2:30pm. And I am sunburnt. I had my shirt off, so my back, arms, neck and face are all lobster red. But damnit, it's DONE!
I came back home, cleaned up a bit, and then headed into Ron's Cabinets so that I could look at door fronts and pulls. Sat out there for about a half-hour with mom (and it's her bday today!) and got some ideas. I'm going to have to head back in on Monday to talk to Jerry since he was out today.
I am going over to Lou's tonight to play some video games and relax a bit. I'm sore! I think I may have most of the weekend to myself since no work is going to be done on the house that I'm aware of. So I may get to sit down on my vacation! We'll see though. ;-)
I did do some work today -- talked to Geoff about some UI issues with RB 2005. I don't like the aqua look on Windows, so we're going to see if we can get a better look before we ship. I'm also hoping to solve some keyboard access issues with our custom controls. Namely, the disclosure triangles (which should be going away; to be replaced with a chevron, like Explorer uses) and the scope mode switch button. We'll see though, it's kinda late in the game to be making these changes, so they may end up being punted until r2.
I have a few more design patterns that I am thinking of writing about: Chain of Responsibility (Dispatch), Iterator, Mediator and Memento. Are there others that you want to see done?
I think I am going to set up my home office this weekend. I'm hoping my new KVM gets here (which it should, tomorrow sometime) so the office will be useful.
Oy! It's time for me to head out, Lou just called. I hate how sunburns tire you out so much! Hope all is well with everyone! :-)
I'm jealous. You get to hang out with Louie!!!
