Bands I've Been Diggin On

| | Comments (8)

Here's a list of bands that I've been digging on lately, just so you can see how strange my tastes in music really are. In no particular order:

Techno
Industrial
Rock
Country
Misc

Some of these bands are known all over the place (like Garth Brooks and TMBG), and others are ones I only know about thru special channels. So here are my thanks for the tunes:

To the country of Canada, thank you for having the Tea Party, one of the best rock bands ever.

Thanks to Charlie B for the link into Korova -- I've really been digging their tunes, get more up!

Thanks to Mars for the link into Doll Factory, and the free CD. Very original sound, and still enjoying it after all this time.

Thanks to Austin, TX for churning out Kevin Fowler. I'd say he's one of my favorite country artists.

Thanks to Elissa for the link into Blue October. Damn fine rock band, and the first time I've heard a love song I enjoy in years!

Thanks to Adam for putting Man With No Name on the CD player when we went to Area One.

I love the Phunk Junkeez. They are the coolest! :)

If you like any Beatlesque music, check out Michael Penn. Hugely talented guy.

I'd recommend checking out some music that's more than just a few years old. there's a lot of great stuff you're missing, and it gives you a perspective into the roots of the music you're listening to. When I grew up, I only listened to current music. Then I started listening to really old jazz, blues, bluegrass, folk, classical, electronic, and world music. It really opened my eyes (ears?). I heard the original versions of songs that I grew up with and realized how much better the originals were, but unfortunately the originals were not allowed on mainstream radio then (for example, Big Mama Thornton's "Hounddog" makes Elvis Presley's version sound tame). Try it -- you'll have fun.

@Amber -- I know, and they're still touring! How cool is that?!

@Brad -- I'll have to check him out, I tend to like the Beatles.

@Scott -- I'll give it a shot at some point I'm sure. My music tastes vary so wildly that I'll end up listening to them at some point.

My new favorite is an instrumental alternative punkish band called Kinski out of Seattle. Give them a listen. http://www.kinski.net/

I'd love to see them on tour. I remember Matt Lahr got to see those guys. He said they look they have been on heroin for a million years. But they play really well.

You should check out Damien Rice. He rocks.

Tell me what music you like and I tell you how old you are! I just turned 40 on Sept. 6, thus my list includes The talking heads, Janes Addiction, The Smiths (even my 4-year old son knows the names of each member and is happy to answer the question of his favourite Smiths song), The The, REM, The eels and Blumfeld. Sometimes I wonder If I am the oldest RB user around.

Nah, that's Terry, isn't it? ;)
