So I finally got around to putting my latest batch of house pictures online last night. So now there are some pictures of the house now that it's finished. I also snuck in some cute pictures of Pixel enjoying her new house, as well as some pictures from the house of the view. I especially enjoy the shot of the CAT jacked up to one side. He was cleaning the treads off by spinning them around quickly while hoisted in the air. :-P
One I get the house a little more clean, I'll make another movie of how things look. Right now the place is a bit of a disaster since dad and I are doing some trimwork and I just started putting up curtains.
Speaking of that -- when I went shopping yesterday, I spent more money than I had hoped. :-P I bought curtains for the livingroom, some of which I hung last night. They look pretty, but they're going to take some getting used to. I'm trying to avoid making the house look like a bachelor pad, so I went with something nuteral and "pretty", and it looks quite... feminine. You try finding some masculine curtains!! :-P
But I made my first truly large furniture purchase -- a kitchen table and chairs. I think they're really awesome; they're in a distressed farmhouse style, and I really love them. They won't arrive for another month or so though. :-( But holy crap is that stuff spendy! With my 100$ off coupon (because I'm turning into my parents and refuse to buy anything that's not on sale), the table and four chairs cost about $1500! Yeeks! Even though I know I can afford it because I've been saving my money, writing a check that large still hurts. So I may do some side jobs to offset the cost of my kitchen a bit. Would anyone be interested in purchasing a (Windows-only) plugin to do speech recognition? I've been looking into the new awesome stuff in SAPI 5, and I've got a very simple sample application (not even in plugin form yet) that recognizes phrases (like "go to the counter" vs "go to the nook"). The great thing about SAPI 5 (aside from the fact that it rocks) is that there's a redistributable for the library, so you don't have to worry about whether users have it or not -- make it part of the install and they've got it. :: shrugs :: It's just a thought I've been kicking around. No clue what I'd price it at, or even what the feature set may be. I'm mostly just playing around with it and learned what it can do currently. But if there's little to no interest in that type of plugin, I'll just put it on the back-burner and find something else to do. :-P
If you do decide to do the speech recognition plugin, why not combine it with some of the speech recognition projects already out there for Mac and REALbasic, so we don't have to use two APIs? I'm not sure how you would combine native RB source with Mac declares and a Windows-only plugin (perhaps the RB class could be updated to act as a wrapper) but that would be pretty nice.
Masculine Curtians? How about some blankets and nails!
@Adam -- It's worth looking into, but it also depends on licensing for those other projects, how much time I have on my hands, and how robust the Mac APIs are compared to the Windows ones. From what I've seen, there's almost no chance to have a good cross-platform API for this...
@Steve -- LOL! I could make a kitchen table out of Old Milwaukie beer cases and some flattened cardboard too. :-P
Fedex Boxes rule!
Nice pictures, by the way... what's that computer setup you've got there? Perhaps one day you could do an entry on what you use for development (unless you already have).
Interesting idea, I think I'll post about that today.
