Man, I am so glad to be living in Minnesota. It's absolutely stunning this time of year. Today, it's 77 degrees outside, sunny, and the leaves are really starting to change colors, so everywhere you look it's reds, yellows, oranges and greens. Fall is by far my favorite time of year to be living here (though I actually enjoy all the seasons here and am really looking forward to winter because it's been so long!). So I've spent part of my day doing outdoors work. Digging holes, things like that. I made a plumbing repair to the sprinkler system as well, since I managed to clip one of my lines. Oops. Oh well, nothing 3$ worth of parts (1 nipple and 2 drive clamps) couldn't cure.
When Adam gets back from Blaine, he and I are going to head out to his parent's place to get some trees. He figures he'll be back around 6, and since it's dark by 8, I don't think I'm going to grab a ton of them today. Maybe three today. Hopefully we can head out again tomorrow and pick up a few more. I think a dozen trees this year is quite hopeful at this point. :-P But we'll see.
I think the new REALbasic Forums are going over very well with people. I can tell because there hasn't been anyone complaining on the mailing lists about it. :-P I'm quite happy, because I finally have a message board I can frequent again. Yay! And the fact that we've gotten over 250 users in about a day means that it's a viable board; I was slightly worried we'd build it, but no one would come.
I get to see Elissa in a week! Wahoo!
My grass is starting to come in a little nicer now, and since Mike came out and seeded more of the lawn yesterday and it's almost 80 today, I think my lawn may very well come in this year still. Cross your fingers, cuz it's gonna suck if the lawn is patchy in the spring. The city has been giving me hell because I didn't sod the lawn -- but I keep fending them off with the response, "the building inspector gave me until Nov 1st to have grass in, so check back then." LoL, I'm such an ass... Hopefully there will be two feet of snow on the ground by the time they can come back and complain with any real force. And then the excuse is, "it's November, you can't plant!" :: grins :: I just refuse to have sod because it's a PITA to keep alive and it takes almost 10 years for it to fully establish itself. A seeded lawn almost always comes in more lush and prettier, and it's a lot more resistant to goofy things like droughts. Harumph!
Mom and dad are up fishing by Alexandria this weekend. I'm damn jealous.
I'm thinking of writing a tutorial about interfaces. Anyone else think that's a good idea? I see more than a handful of people get confused by them, and so I figure it may be a good doco hole to fill in.
I started installing my curtains last night, and I found out that the curtains are slightly too long. I got the 83" tall ones instead of the 68" ones because 68" would be too short for the patio door. But with 83", they're too tall; I'd have to mount them to the ceiling! LoL, so I'm hoping mom can hem them to something more reasonable. God knows I can't sew to save my ass. I remember having a home ec class in high school where we had to make a pillow and an article of clothing. My pillow wasn't a rectangle, it was more of a trapezoid, and my shorts had two different length legs. I'm home ec stupid, and it doesn't bother me one bit.
I've been reading my linkers and loaders book. Holy hell that thing is packed with information. I finally gave up reading for retaining and I'm reading for comprehension first. When I want to retain, I'll go back and re-read the book. It's awesome though since it covers linkers and loaders for multiple architectures. You get a much better perspective of how things work, as well as applicable hands-on knowledge of the system. Wahoo! I'm such a geek.
Oh well, it's time for lunch! Hope everyone's having a wonderful weekend!
So REAL has a Chicago office headed by Joe, a Minnesota office headed by Aaron, and then Mars... wait, where does Mars work from? I've forgotten. He's a quiet guy. No blog like you and Jon. :^)
/me wonders what William & the others do...
Oh, yes... and fall in non-desert climates is very nice. I wish we had fewer everdeads around here...
Joe actually lives in Colorado now -- his wife got a job teaching at UC. Mars lives up in Seattle, and he's far from quiet. ;-)
William and the others are down in Austin, and do all sorts of neat things.
I'm just curious, about how many employees does RS have? and how many of those are engineers?
Oh, and it was gorgeous here a week ago, up in northern NY. Blue skies, green grass, cool breeze, weather in the 70s... And now it's almost frosting at night... Northern NY has two seasons -- construction and winter.

Uh, you never watched Little House on the Prarie, did you? People die in Minnesota in the winter time. When people speak of cold, they speak of the 10 months of winter that Minnesota gets, and to top it all off, they all have that wierd, Fargo kinda accent.
Come on, move to NY, we know how to take care of you!
@SirG3 -- under 100. ;-) We generally don't talk about the number of people we have, but we are a small ISV. As for engineers, we've got under 15 of them. And it sounds like NY is the same as MN, we have the same two seasons.
@Bill -- LOL! In NY, people would shoot country hayseeds like myself and take my wallet and my shoes. I don't want to be "taken care of" like that. ;-)
:: chuckles :: the way you talk about MN as if it's Siberia... you and Lis should chat. :-P
Aw, I'm still awlfully fond of Texas and the Gulf coast... even if I did recently have to run for cover. Hey, I spent the weekend in the pool.
Even though I'm originally from Indiana, near the great lakes, I HATE COLD WEATHER, LOL!
Well to each his own :)
