REALbasic Trivia #2

| | Comments (17)

Since this was quite fun last time, let's try it again.

1) Once upon a time, there was an easter egg in REALbasic. In the compiler, no less! What was the easter egg, and how did you trigger it?

2) Speaking of easter eggs... there was also one in the tips window. What did it say?

3) What two REAL Software engineers had previously written compilers, and what languages did they design?

4) Who was the very first person to purchase a copy of REALbasic?

5) The "new" compiler had a codename. This name was never officially announced that I am aware of, however, there should be enough clues over the years to determine what the name was. What was the codename given to the new compiler?

1) It was tetris and you ran it with a pragma when you debugged! It was removed when the beans were spilled though. :^(

2) Hmm...

3) Mars and Joe, but I have no idea which languages.

4) What kind of questions are these? Aren't trivia questions supposed to be stuff that we could possibly know? I'm going to go on a wiiiiiiiiiiild guess and say Geoff, but I doubt it's true.

5) Swordfi...err... I know the old database was called Rocket :)
What does NameMangler.cpp do? That sounds fun.

I have absolutely no clue. Whew...

Chiroptera?

Ahh wait..... No, that's the debugger.

Seth, all of these questions have answers which are known to the public. ;-)

I'll give you a hint on #4 -- they've been on the realsoftware payroll before, and might still be.

Jason?

4) Andrew....

2) I don't remember the exact wording, but it was about how to get a stain out of the carpet.

I think I remember hearing Joe mention #2, but I've never seen it.

I know that the answer to #4 is John Balestrieri.

I also know Mars has plenty of compiler experience and that Joe has worked extensively with Python in the past, so I'll go with them for #3.

Now I want to know how to get to the compiler easter egg! I have my original copies of REALbasic and REALbasic 2 around here somewhere - hopefully they have it in them!

William wrote Rapid-Q basic.

Ohhhh that's right. It said to use club soda to get out wine, didn't it? I'm searching around for the compiler game thing but I'm having little luck. It was a long time ago...

Yay, I'm a trivia question!

*wonders why John was/is on the payroll* ....

John was a tester for us.

Hmmm.... *counts the number of bug reports he filed* Man, if I had a nickel....

To clarify, it is "was on the payroll" for 9 months -- I relocated to Austin but moved back to NYC for family reasons after 6 months. I still miss working there, but I hid some stuff in my desk to keep me there in spirit. I wonder if the Lucky Burrito I left in the freezer during my interview is still there too...
