I go to pick up Lis in less than an hour. I'm excited! :-) I hope everyone had a great Christmas (if you observe it).
So I'm curious and have a few questions.
1) If you got gifts this season, what was your favorite and why?
2) For how many of you is Christmas celebrated inthe middle of summer?
3) If it's summer right now for you, how strange is it to hear songs about "winter wonderlands" and such? Do you have Christmas music that revolves around the fact that you celebrate it in the summer?
4) What's your favorite seasonal food?
1. A book on how different animals have sex! Informative and amusing. Plus some Beatles Russian dolls. Ringo is inside George who is inside Paul who is inside John. Sounds like something I'd read in the sex book!
2. I'm in New Zealand so its summer for us, if not particularly hot.
3. Funnily enough we're used to it. We don't really have our own songs, we just play the usual ones. Jesus, Santa, Snow etc. Mariah Carey & Michael Buble!
4. Roast Turkey/Chicken.
Merry Christmas
I live in San Diego. What is this "summer" and "winter" of which you speak?
1. Tie between my Flash drive (yes I've been living without one so far) and my CCR cd.
2 & 3. n/a
4. CHRISTMAS COOKIES
1. Probably my favorite thing is the new computer I bought for my mom, but if I had to pick from what I was given, probably the new speakers (JBL Creature).
2. Winter here - rainy and just above freezing outside of Washington, DC.
3. N/A (although I wish it were snowing!)
4. Our spritz cookies, by far. Not only are the cookies addictive, but so is the batter.
1. I got my wife a new faux-fur sable coat and a piece of jewelry. She gave me an IOU for a new Mac when they're released.
2. Winter here. We're Jewish, so we celebrate Hanukkah, but I'm not opposed to any holiday when you're supposed to eat and get gifts. ;-) Seriously, we also have a traditional Christmas dinner for my wife -- not for religious reasons, but to remember her childhood and her family, most of whom died young.
3. It was strange to hear songs about winter wonderlands when we used to go swimming in Houston, Texas on Christmas day!
4. Our favorite holiday food is home-made soft pretzels that we bake in the shape of dreidels, menorahs, and stars of David.
1) I gifted myself with a beautiful 4 month old African Senegal parrot. An absolute joy!
I guess if I have to choose something given TO me, I'd say either GURPS Banestorm, or World of Darkness Mysterious Places. Both are awesome RPG books I've been wanting.
2) Winter here (TN, USA). However, I celebrate Yule/Winter Solstice.
3) n/a
4) Steak! I started a new family tradition several years ago. On holidays (including Thanksgiving) where Turkey/Ham is served, we replace it with fresh grilled beef steak. We break out a charcoal grill and put it to work, regardless of weather! It is more tasty and makes the neighbors jealous!!!
1. The World Greatest Super Heroes book and Civ IV :)
2 & 3. N/A.
4. Spiral sliced ham.
1/ My mother coming to visit. Her health is so-so, so every Christmas she shows up is a gift.
2/ & 3/ not applicable, Bordeaux in December is a bit cold :-)
4/ Some sort of chicken, which is to poultry what an ox [as in castrated, XXXL-sized] is to normal cows. We call it chapon in French, no idea if there's a word for that in English. On chicken breast of that mofo feeds three :-) Turkeys look undernourished compared to it ;-)
Merry Christmas Aaron.
1.) Speakers, I finally have speakers (well, I had a crappy pair with a short in em, but I traded that for an ethernet switch)! No more routing all my sound through the iMac =). But, the whiteboard I got is nice too...
4.) I'm not a huge fan of holiday food, though this Christmas eve we had steaks. I could live with that becoming a tradition.
1) This year I have received a balloon trip over Florence as Christmas gift!
1) Digicam. It's just the coolest, most useful gift you can get.
2 & 3) N/A -- In my corner of Germany we even had snowfall... trees are sugar-coated, but it doesn't stick to the floor...
4) We always have Fondue (the meat-and-soup kind, not the cheese-and-bread variety). Apart from that, we have lots of sweet snacks.
1) My new iMac G5 (rev. B). Simply because I love Macs.
2) I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It's summer here. Hot, very hot!
3) It's strange living in tropical country and see all Xmas decoration with snow and a Santa Claus with a big and hot red jacket.
4) Roast Turkey, Panetonne (a italian recipe for a kind of bread) see more: www.bauducco.com.br, chestnut, etc etc :)
1. Pizza Oven
2. No (It wasn't a "white christmas" - more like a "muddy ice Christmas")
3. Not Applicable
4. Tie: Green Bean Casserole, Broccoli with Cheese and Corn Pudding. Oh, and Beer! :)
