I present to you... a gift!
In honor of the new year, I want to make my latest project, "Elissa Sweeper" available for beta testing.
It's currently a Minesweeper clone, however, I have plans for adding some new features to it to make it an original game as well. But before I start working on the other aspects of the game, I wanted to get it into the hands of people who want to play it and find any remaining bugs with it.
And! As an extra added bonus for everyone, this game works on all platforms (Windows, Mac and Linux)! So to all of you who think I don't care about the Mac -- shush! I'm porting a great Windows game over to your platform. ;-P The zip file includes all three executables -- the .bin file is for the Mac, the extensionless one is for Linux and the .exe is for Windows.
The gameplay itself is just like Minesweeper, except with different graphics. The only thing I should note is that on Mac and Linux, you need to press Control+Right Click in order to show open spaces instead of the usual left- and right-click at the same time (as on the PC). That's only because I couldn't find a reliable way to detect simultaneous left and right clicks on those platforms.
If you find any bugs, please report them here. Once I've got the new features added to the game, I'll make an official release.
Enjoy! And I hope everyone had a fun and safe new year's eve!
Lis and I went to a local honky tonk and got honky tanked (well, I couldn't get tanked until I was home since I was the one driving) -- it was a blast! What did everyone else do?
Thanks for the game! Will give it a stress test :-)
We had four friends at home for a gigantic dinner [7pm ~ 3am]. Enormous amounts of Korean food – the Missus is Korean – wine, champagne, etc...
Doing the dishes today was... interesting!
Plays quite well. One thing, I do hit bombs on my first click sometimes.
Thanks
What Honky Tonk? We went to Trobec's and rocked out to my friend's band! It was me, Louie, JR, Shelli, Julie, and Staci. We had FUN! I was honky tanked. Like WHOA!
Glad you had a good New Years:)
We went to the Legion and then to Club Alamar. Sounds like you guys had an awesome too though, which rocks! When's our next group night?
Note to myself: the bomb count needs to be updated when switching skill levels, and the window still needs a title.
Not a bug but...
In the mac version the high-scores window needs to be larger (so you can resize the text fields. (There is not enough room for the text in the fields.)
Happy new year!
Arne
In the game window the timers text also needs more space. Is it right align?
Arne
If you close the game window you can’t open a new without restart the application. Maybe “New Game†should be enabled even if no window present, and open a new window if there is none.
Aaron thanks for the long laugh I had when looking at the fun pictures at your site.
Arne
one thing i noticed is that when you switch from beginner to expert, the number of mines doesn't update until you click on a box. So it says 10, then once you click it says 99. And nice resetting of the scores :)
Might want to name the form something other than "Untitled" ?
Great game! I've tried it out. Seems to work great for me. The interface for the seconds passed/number of bombs on the window could be a lot slicker, and take up less space. But this is great for an alpha! You even used a sheet ;)
Can you comment on bug ypaingej? Paid support has checked it out and said "not a bug" (although they didn't close the report). I feel otherwise. What do you think?
@Arne -- Oh yeah! I forgot, closing the window on the Mac doesn't quit the app.
But that brings up a good question. Would you Mac users prefer the app to quit (like some apps do) if the window is closed? Or should the New Game just bring up a new window if there isn't one already on the screen?
@Steve -- those are the two that I noticed as well! Great minds must think alike. :-)
@Adam -- lol, I went back and changed everything to sheets because I *knew* someone would skewer me if I didn't. ;-) As for the report, I have no idea -- I'm not much of an XML guy myself.
In this case I say it's okay if the app quits when closing the window since this window is the only one. (But notice Windows users that you don’t usually close apps in this way on Mac.)
Arne
I pressed submit to fast. I mean quit the app, not close in the last sentence...

I'm pushing for January 14. The band is playing and we're thinking of going. I was thinking about a dinner and everything. A really NICE group night:)
