Exciting Weekend

This weekend should be fun -- I'll be spending it digging more holes. I'm going to start getting the footings ready for the deck, so hopefully by next weekend I can just throw it up there and be done with it. The deck is my second of three major projects for this summer. The first was getting the shallow well pounded and sprinkler pump installed. That's working awesome (the pump runs for six hours a day -- 30 minutes per zone, 6 zones, twice a day), but boy does the lawn dry out quick when there aren't any trees around and it's windy. Yeesh! But I think the lawn will make it thru the summer, it's starting to green up again. The third major project for the summer will be adding more trees to the yard, but that's not until late summer/early fall. I don't anticipate the deck being too hard; I've got enough people who've claimed they're helping out so that it should go up in a day.

I'm still recovering from my major sunburn last weekend. How long does it take to stop hurting? lol

I played Texas Holdem with my neighbor last night; got my ass kicked (but I wasn't the first one out). I ended up having to go all-in with my short stack on an Ace/Five suited. Flop comes out with an Ace -- now I'm stoked. The other guy was an Ace/Four. Wahoo! Street comes out with nothing. River comes out with a damned four. It was a harsh way to go out. But I still had fun; drank until about 1am. Then came home and had a fun, hazy conversation with Lis. :-P

I must admit that it's tough to get excited for digging holes on the south side of my house when it's 99 with 15 mph winds today. I may punt on that during the day and dig at night. ;-P

I'd love to have your weekend -- it would sure beat mine! _Both_ of the air conditioners in my house just died (it's a long story), and the inside of the house has reached over 90 degrees. My wife and I (and the kitties) had to move into a motel until new air conditioners are installed on Monday and Tuesday. It was hot enough for us, but the cats are wearing fur coats. On top of that, I hurt my back when carrying our two huge cats in their carrying case to our car. Will the fun never end?

Oh man, that really sucks Scott -- I had my AC break once in TX and it was no bueno at all (same sort of temps). I hope it gets fixed ASAP. As for the cats, there's an easier solution than carrying them -- let them pick the hotel by letting them walk there. ;-)

Ricky's too fast -- we'd never catch him unless we had rocket skates. But Louie's strong enough to drag the hotel back to us!

Aaron, are you guys getting much rain there? It's getting pretty drought-like here. We get rain *maybe* once or twice a week, but it's really just enough to make the grass damp. This week were not even forecasting any rain at all. My lawn is starting to look like very short hay that's ready to be baled :P

@Scott P -- it's been very dry up here lately, almost drought weather. The crops are doing rather poorly around here, and most people's lawns (including mine) are feeling the heat too.

Aaron, We're back home! Only the downstairs is currently air conditioned (the upstairs will be ready tomorrow). It was a bit tough getting through my day and seeing patients with no sleep at all last night (the cats kept meowing and crawling over me in the hotel room so they could be reassured that everything was OK), but I crashed right after dinner today. The cats are definitely happy to be home too.

Now i just have to complete three lectures for this week and next: (1) current research on the electrophysiology of glaucoma, (2) clinical electrodiagnostic testing (for our residents), and (3) tools for building educational software for optics. Guess which one will feature REALbasic?

@Scott S -- great to hear you're back in the coolness of the house, and the cats made it ok. :-)

And you can't fool me, you're using REALbasic for all three, right? ;-) I'm glad to hear you're going to be using RB to teach students how to build educational software; that's awesome! You should contact Gwen or Matt at RS to see if they'd like to use it as a success story.

This lecture isn't for students. I'm teaching faculty members from schools across the country about REALbasic development for their courses. I think that's even better -- maybe we can increase the use of REALbasic in education.
