I head back today

I took off from work early yesterday (about 2pm) so that I could spend more time with Lis. We wanted to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, so we checked out the theatre near Lis' new apt. The movie was alright (meaning, I didn't love it, but I don't feel like I want my money back). It wasn't nearly as good as the first movie, and I think that's why I didn't like it as much. I hadn't set my expectations properly. I was assuming it was going to be witty and funny, but the jokes were close to the same as in the original movie, and it wasn't nearly as funny as I thought it would be. However, I'd still recommend you see it if you wish to see a movie, simply because everything else released seems to suck (though Nacho Libre was funny).

The movie I'm really waiting for is Lady in the Water. Damn that looks good.

On the way home from the movie, Lis spotted a dead bird hanging from the carport outside of her apt. The bird had lodged its head in a crack on the roof, and so it was hanging by its neck in there. We walked over to check it out, probably take the bird down since it looked rather morbid. Only the bird wasn't dead! It was still living, but not by much. I gently took it out and released it, and it flew off. As we walked back to the apt, I noticed the same bird on the ground, seeming very disoriented. So we grabbed the bird and brought it into the apt. It's in a box, wrapped in a towel with some water for it. We're hoping the shock wore off (there seems to be very little physical damage, just some small wounds) overnight so we can release it. It's a female house sparrow, in case you're wondering.

After the movie, we hung out with the ever-awesome Jennifer. We all had dinner at Polvo's (awesome Mexican food), and got a wee bit tipsy (I didn't, until I got home, since I was the one driving). Entertaining conversations were had by all. Jen leaves for Dallas in a few days to become a medical professional; how cool is that? It's gonna suck with her leaving Austin though. :-(

My flight leaves this afternoon (oh goodie, more time spent with Northwest... le sigh), and I'm bummed. I had a nice time with Lis while I was down here; I can't wait for her to come up to MN (hopefully in August)!

Update: we released the bird just now. She's doing fine and was in a hurry to get to where she wanted to go. :-P She was flying straight and strong, so I think she'll live. w00t!

The problem with M Knights movies are, they are all the same.

As to the bird, you missed out on some free BBQ.

I miss you already!! Grr.... And I'm glad the bird was ok..even if it was a house sparrow. ;)

@Bill you obviously haven't tried BBQ house sparrow. The females don't even taste like chicken. You get two bites then spend the rest of the day picking bits out of your teeth with the leg bone. Or are US sparrows different from UK ones?

Well, one has to remember that a house sparrow, be it Uk or US, are unladen in the BBQ, one has to laden it up for it to be a true delicacy, might I suggest sausage stuffing, or the southern fvorite of 'sparrow grits' stuffing.

The true question is, what is the actual land speed of an unladen house sparrow, who is caught by the neck in a window casing?

I think they raided some cat's larder. I've seen Tom store Jerry for later by slotting his neck into a V-shaped notch in a piece of wood.

LoL! You both crack me up. I'm not certain if our house sparrows are the same as yours. I'd assume they'd be slightly different due to the big pond between us, but I don't know.

Over here they're very small, loud and generally annoying. But that doesn't mean I want to let one choke/dehydrate/starve to death.

Ah, but it is ok to unwrap them from plastic and slap some seasoning on them, eh?

*sniff*, *sniff* do I smell hypocrasy here?
