Well, Lis and I had a nice little mini-vacation this weekend.
The drive down was rather uneventful, aside from my getting us lost in Rockport on the way to the hotel. We stayed at the Laguna Reef hotel, right on Aransas Bay. We got a nice little room (that smelled like cooked fish) which was bayside. Aside from the strange smell, the room was very nice.
We went for a short walk out in the bay and I saw my first (dead) jellyfish. Very strange looking things when washed up on shore!
Later that night (after wine and cake, lol), we went out again on the bay to look for insects for Lis' collection. We got a handful of good ones, but it was a little too windy to get much of anything.
The next day, we decided to go out for breakfast after checking out of the hotel. Instead, we wound up in Corpus Christi. We had some lunch there at a little Mexican place where the waiter actually knew who the Golden Gophers were. ;-) Then we went over to the aquarium in town and toured that.
After our impromptu adventure in Corpus, we decided to head home. A little after we got to San Antonio, the rain started coming down so hard you could barely see the person in front of you with their flashers on. That sucked. But we made it home alright (the weather cleared up somewhere between San Marcos and Kyle). But, due to the weird weather, we didn't go out to any fireworks on the 4th. We did light some of our own off, however. So it was fun.
All in all, I had a nice time this weekend. I hope everyone else had a fun, safe weekend as well.
Next time--MEXICO!!
Elissa and Aaron-
My wife and I spent our (much-belated because I was in graduate school) honeymoon in Acapulco at a resort called Las Brisas. It was great! We had our own private casita with our own private pool, sweet rolls and coffee delivered every morning, and a great swimming pool-like area that was actually an inlet from the ocean in which we could snorkel and watch fish (my wife was laughing about having just ticked one off with her flipper, then the fish bit my ankle!). The restaurants there were wonderful. One restaurant greeted you with a shot of tequila at the door. My wife went "I don't know...I've never had tequila. I don't think I'll like it". She had it anyway, then immediately asked "Hey, can I have another?". All in all, we loved it. Very romantic, very restful.
@Lis -- heh, sure, where I'll get *shot*! ;-)
@Scott -- thats cool, thanks for the info!
