Sad day... a bit late.

One of my all-time favorite bands is the Tea Party. They're a pioneer Canadian rock band which fuses rock with Eastern sounds. Very original style of music which came during a time when most bands were more interested in the cookie cutter format of alternative and pop music than artistic style. Sadly, the band broke up last year.

Seeing as how I own every record they've produced, I'm sad to know that there will probably never be another Tea Party release coming (unless they decided to release B-sides which didn't make the cut for previous albums). However, I did learn the Jeff Martin, the front man for TTP, has regrouped and formed a new band. I've been listening to some of the freebies he has up on his site, and I must say, I'm liking what I hear. So who knows, I may still be able to support my rock habit. :-)

This isn't the first time a group I really enjoyed has broken up (I still recall when God Lives Underwater split), and I doubt it will be the last time.

So what are your favorite bands that have retired?

*lol*, you said record. Grandpa!

Pink Floyd, no doubt about it.

But but but, they got back together for a reunion...nevermind. ;-)

And you mean to tell me I can't use record and album interchangeably?

Some of mine are still going :)
But I expect they'll require walkers and such soon

Stones, Aerosmith, Nazareth, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Eagles

Some new stuff like Bare Naked Ladies, Collective Soul

A record is a group of information saved to a file, an album is something you keep old style photos in.

Sheesh. Whippersnappers.

Try "Seeing as how I own every MP3 they’ve produced." Definitely.

Some of my faves recently got back together: The Presidents of the United States of America and Gin Blossoms. Others are still going strong: The Shins, Barenaked Ladies, Jars of Clay, Weezer. Bands I wish hadn't broken up: The Kinks (one of the most influential rock bands ever), The Clash, Toad the Wet Sprocket.

The only big group that has retired that I liked was Creed. It's too bad the lead singer became an ___hole, and that both splitoffs (AlterBridge and Scott Stapp) were disappointing. (I'm holding hope for Alterbridge, though - if they're lucky enough to get a sophomore album.

As for smaller, local groups, Throne, Mr. Pill (One of the spinoffs of Throne), and Capstone saw their demises a long while ago. Throne was a lot like the hardcore metal Metallica, Megadeth, and Pantera used to drive out, and I still listen to their CD often. I'd highly recommend "Work of Wolves" if you can find the Demo CD anyplace.

Mr. Pill was more like the Rap Rock of today: the drummer (I think) and lead singer mixed in with members of another local group called Solar Pony to create their sound. (I couldn't tell you much about Solar Pony, other than my sis, who was a skater at the time, was into them) I don't think they ever made a CD, but their music was up on MP3.com before it was bought out by CNet Networks (owners of CNet.com, obviously, and ZDNet and its various publications, I think) and turned into the farce it is today. You might find their songs in spots, the one standing out in my mind called "Fake."

As for Capstone, Mr. Pill used to hold an anual show called "PillFest" where they'd get bands to play all day at a local bar. The only one I remember going to had 2 bands I was sure were going to make it: Alone (formerly known before I saw them as "Yeah Right," who had 2 CDs - a 3-song demo and a full CD under their former name), who was led by a female singer and had a hard rock sound to them, and CapStone, who sounded a lot like Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. how much alike? They had a singer, a rapper, typical 2 guitars and a bass, and a drummer - don't recall a DJ in the group, but their sound didn't need it. They had a 6 Track CD, and had a few more songs on MP3.com before the buy-out. (Gee, Thanks, CNet - your buyout threw away a bunch of good music!) If you can find it, "Breathe" and "Wrong Side of the Sun" are favorites of mine - so much so that if I ever form a band, they're two I'd track the guys down just to get the permission to record and perform it. (Yes, I think the songs are worth the effort.)

I'd offer to trade music, but I am unsure about the legallities - don't want the RIAA up my butt over something no longer available.

The Tea Party was a great band... loved every album and agree that it was a sad day when Jeff called it quits. I have his solo album, and while it is quite good (I still recommend that you get it), it doesn't hold up to the Tea's best efforts.

I just ordered Exile and the Kingdom, as well as the Fool. So we'll see how I like them. Good to know I'm not alone in my love of the Tea Party. I've got everything they've put out (including the indie CD, which was a bugger to get ahold of) as well.
