Had a blast this weekend, and I'm still recovering from it. Scott's last day of freedom was on Saturday, so a bunch of us got together for his bachelor party down in Robbinsdale (first time I've ever been there -- nice little burb).
I got down to Scott's about noon and was followed by Joel, Abe and Brever. We proceed to open Cold Ones and grill some burgers and brats, when Jay showed up. Now the party was ready to get started. :-) We grilled, drank and BS until we were ready to go on a frisbee golfing adventure.
From Sco's house, we headed to a course that was only about a mile away, and was a really fun course. It had some of the worst hole labeling and placement we've ever seen, which made it that much more challenging. Couple that with some of the longest, and weirdest holes you can imagine, and it was awesome. Brev managed to hit about a 75 yard "putt" -- it was the most amazing frisbee golf thing I've ever seen. Rocked.
After that, we headed over to Doyle's lanes for more drinking and bowling. I did well for myself (as usual -- when I drink, I can bowl, when I don't drink, I can't): 120-something, 140-something then a 198. Also had some hot wings that made my face numb, so that was cool. :-)
From bowling, we headed over to Henning's place in Coon Rapids for a bit of poker action, and of course, more drinking. I wasn't the first person out this time, so I was pleased with myself. I took 4th out of 7, which is damned good for me. We played Hold Em, and went for about 4 or 5 hours. You know your game is long when the blinds are like 2500/5000!
By the time we were done with poker, we were all pretty well done for the night (it was about 2am). So we headed back to Sco's house, where I promptly crashed in his spare bedroom.
It was an awesome time -- Scott needs to get married more often (just don't tell Anne I said that). ;-) I made it back home safely and hung over on Sunday morning, just in time to finish the deck. That's right, I said FINISH. It's DONE. Over. Kaput! Wahoo! :-) Then dad and I worked on a workbench for the garage and have that mostly done. We just need to put legs on it and attach it to the wall. Once that project is done, I may do another video walk through of the house and post it here.
"Coon Rapids"? You've got to be kidding.
(Then again, I live near Lizard Lick, NC.)
Hey, Scott's from up by the Staples/Motley area, which is right next to Nimrod. ;-)
@Russ: Lizard Lick, 'eh, isn't that pretty much an intersection? :D I live in Raleigh and my wife works in Wendell, but we've never visited Lizard Lick.
@Christian: I'm afraid my familiarity with Lizard Lick is seeing it on a map and perhaps (fuzzy memory) noting a sign while breezing down Hwy 64.
May have bought gas there. It has a short wikipedia entry.
Nimrod is a great name.
Somehow over time it's gotten twisted into a derogatory term thanks to Bugs bunny having called Elmer fudd a nimrod :)
But, Lizard Lick ?
I guess that ranks right up there with Spuzzum
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spuzzum
Of course this from a province that has Vulcan (yes the annual Star Trek festival is cool) and other odd place names like Medicine Hat and Red Deer (which apparently have nothing to do with what most folks assume they do)
However, Cold Lake IS damned cold
Around here we have Nimrod, Embarrass, Assumption and tons of other strangely named towns. I won't even try to get into the Native American named towns..
But nothing beats Tillicum, WA, for perverted reasons...
Coon Rapids? Lizard Lick? Nimrod? You Americans and your town names.. you crack me up! :P
All NC towns/cities/crossroads: Middlesex, Climax, Morehead City, Meat Camp.
Fuquay-Varina gets giggles, but that's really stretching it. (No pun intended.)
I'm easy to entertain.
