Oh man, the wedding on Friday was awesome. Krista and Abe's ceremony wasn't your typical Catholic ceremony, and it was really nice. They did a great job of planning it out. It was a small-ish wedding with about 50-60 people there, and it was at the Newman Center on campus. The whole ceremony revolved around light, and was really tactful.
After the wedding came the reception (downstairs in the Newman), and that was a blast. The open bar didn't hurt anything either. ;-) I think I danced from about 6:30 until 11:30 almost straight through. I've come to the realization that I simply must dance at weddings. No idea why that might be, but out of almost every wedding I've been at in the last few years, I've danced my ass off at all of them (except Scott's, but that's understandable as I knew about three people out of 100 at that one). Needless to say, my legs hurt.
The highlights of the evening were (in no particular order):
1) Watching Brittany (Roger's [the guy I play racquetball with on a weekly basis] 3 yr old daughter) do the hokey pokey and chicken dance in the middle of the circle. She caught on so quick!
2) Watching Abe and Krista's expressions throughout the evening.
3) Seeing everyone and having a really good time.
After the reception closed down, I helped the family take down tables and decorations and stuff, then the wedding party, family and I all went to Perkins downtown to have a snack. I didn't make it back to my place until about 2am, whereas I did a face plant and slept.
Saturday morning came early because dad called and woke me up. He needed help raking at his house, and I needed his leaves so I could bury my plants. So after dropping my card off for the present opening (I forgot it at my place before I went to the wedding -- oops) at Doug and Sarah's, I went over to mom and dad's house to rake. We got half the lawn done, and then ate some chili. I have to head back over there today to finish the lawn, yech! But, all my plants are covered with a nice layer of leaves that should keep them good and warm through the winter. While I was over raking, I found a chestnut, so I'm going to plant that (probably today), but I wish I had a second one so that when they grow, they'll get nuts.
I spent most of my evening last night playing a new game on my PS2: God of War. Damn, that's a fun adventure game. I haven't had one of those in a while, so I'm stoked. I was up until 3am playing that one, so I'm a wee bit sleepy still today. Oh well, it was worth it. I also snagged some awesome new Halloween decorations, which are now adorning my kitchen. The house is looking more festive, finally. But after the holiday, I plan to go out and attempt to double my collection so next year will be even better. :-)
Anyone, I have to head over to mom and dad's place to finish raking. I'm not looking forward to it because my legs and back hurt from dancing still. But, they're having venison chops for lunch, so I am looking forward to that. :-)
I'm intrigued; how was it different from a "typical Catholic ceremony"?
You means it wasn't the typical Catholic aerobics at church session ?
Stand up, sit down, kneel, stand up, sit, kneel, sit, kneel, stand up, twirl your partner round and round and dosie doe ?
The last one I went to was very traditional and the best part was when the guy knelt at the alter someone had written HELP ME on the soles of his shoes.
Everyone that could see his shoes laughed at that including Mom's and Dad's on both sides
@Aaron: I've had God of War for a while. That IS an awesome game. If you like action/adventure games, give Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 a try. I found those fun, even though they're targeted more at teens.
@Adam -- it wasn't typical in that it didn't have the aerobics, it didn't have your standard readings (like Corinthians, about how love is patient, yada yada yada), etc. It was a very nice mass.
@Scott -- I own KH1, and enjoyed it, though the fights are repetitive. I've contemplated getting 2, but can't justify spending 50$ on it. I got god of war for 20$ and it's been worth every penny of it. I was up until 1am last night beating away on it. :-P
Being raised in a Catholic family, I love the "aerobics" comment. Too funny! Glad I don't have to do that anymore. :D
