Ok, this is a question for all you males out there: what's the best electric razor? I've been trying to find a good way to get myself clean shaven, and have been failing miserably at it for many years. My problem is two-fold: 1) I'm lazy, so I want something quick. Quicker than a straight razor, which is what I use today. 2) I'm a sissy, so I want something that isn't going to tear the hair out of my face.
So I presume that at least one or two of you have to be clean and presentable on a daily basis. What do you use? Do you like it? How much did it cost you?
I'm a big fan of the Braun Activator series. I use the 8585 model. It's self cleaning, and works well. You use it against the grain, and once you get used to it- it just takes 2-3 quick passes over the same area and you are smooth.
Over here we have a nice razor called the LadyShave.
It's made by a Dutch company so it may be designed for European women and thus a bit painful for you men from the home of the brave.
Still, it's a lovely pink colour :}
P.S. please feel free to correct the inaccurate lyric, but don't try fixing my spelling - it's right!
Gilette Razor, it has batteries, vibrates a bit, but it is the first rasor I am very happy with
Aaron, I've been using the Braun system too. I like it (as much as i can like any razor, having the unfortunate combination of a tough beard and very sensitive skin). I do feel, however, that the cleaning solutio for the self-cleaning razor is a little overpriced and can be difficult to find in stores.
Norelco (or however it is spelled) makes a good electric razor. Those are the ones that have the 3 round heads on the top. If you do some searching, you can find them rather cheep at places like Sears. But I do have to confess that I don't use it regularly, because I am still lazy. It isn't that it is hard, but that driving force to shave isn't there.
Don't you work from home ?
What's the deal about needing to be clean shaven every day (unless of course Lis - or is it Liz - insists) ?
I don't use an electric as they have always just ripped the hell out of my face when I've tried any. And there's no nice way to try them til you find one you like and then buy that one. So buying one after another is simply not really practical.
My face is way too sensitive as is my pocketbook :)
Over the years I've tried several different razors and settled on the fact that they all irritate the hell out of my skin so I dont shave every day.
Electric shaver? I thought you said you had a manly question! ;)
Seriously, though, I find the electrics to be way too tough on my skin. I use the Gillette Mach 3 blades on my face (and entire head) and they're great. The other trick is to get some good shaving cream, the best of which is called HeadSlick.
Did you hear from Louie last night? Just being nosy................
1) Just use a *good* 3-4 blade razor.
2) Find some good *gel*, not that cheap Barbasol shaving cream crap.
2) Use an applicator and massage it in good (don't use your hands).
I don't find myself running to the bathroom in anticipation of a shave either but the little extra work pays off (for me anyways). If you absolutely are sick of shaving, try and get Her to do it. You just might end up liking it ;-)
I've never found any electric that doesn't aggravate the heck out of my skin.
I used to use blades, but there's a reason I'm not a surgeon. Nerds usually aren't very coordinated. ;-)
I'm currently using a Remington R845, and it's by far the best one I've ever had.
This model has three rotating blades. Prior to the R845, I used razors which enclosed vibrating blades behind metallic screens.
You may wish to also consider battery life (assuming you go for a rechargeable model). Amazingly, I still visit hotels/motels that don't have electrical outlets by the mirror.
Not surprisingly, I've found that all of my electric razors perform better in low humidity.

I use the Braun Activator, and it's great. Self-cleaning makes it so easy. I tried rotary blades before (Philishave and such), and they ripped more than they cut. FYI, Walmart has the cleaning solution and it's not too expensive, 20$ CAD for 3 cartridges. Very reasonable.
Speaking of razors, check this Onion piece about five blade razors... They actually released one a few months later! Makes me laugh everytime.

Well, I just purchased a Braun 360° Complete 8995, and it should be here in about a week. We'll see!
Put me in in the Braun camp. The self-cleaning alone makes it worth it. No more shavings and such around the sink bowl when I 'shake' out the shaver. Shaves good too!
