The basement is coming along really quickly now. I got the painting done last week, which meant that I could finally start doing the trim work. That's when the unfinished basement starts looking like a finished one.
I got all the window jambs and casings done (so they're totally finished off) earlier this week, and it started looking really nice. But last night and this morning (before work, which is so early that I don't want to contemplate it anymore) I installed doors with the help of my neighbor. He has a trick for hanging them which makes things go so much faster. Five doors and it only took us about two hours to accomplish (which is insanely fast as far as I'm concerned).
I've also go some doorknobs on two of the doors, as well as casing around two of them (the two we finished last night). Tonight's fun is to put knobs and casing on the rest of the doors. Then I just have to get casing on the bi-fold closest doors, and the casing is done. Then it's time to start on the floorboards!
Once all the base is down, I'm basically home free. I've got a guy coming in at the end of the month to do carpet, and I plan to just quickly polish off the plumbing and electrical soon after that. Once those are done, the whole project is done! Wow!
So hopefully by this time next month, the entire house will be "finished." I started the house in May of 2005, and by March of 2007, I'll have completed my quest. It's rather weird to think about since I did a ton of the work for the upstairs (and was my own general contractor for the rest), I put the deck on, landscaped the yard (read:planted a bunch of trees, shrubs and flowers), and then finished the basement off. Granted, I'm sure I could spend a ton more time, money and energy doing other work on the house. But all of the big ticket items are going to be taken care of! Wow...
woo! Glad to hear the basement's coming along :D
