Huttah! The books have arrived from the printer and the first batch of orders went out today. I'm very excited that things are finally starting to roll with actually getting the book into reader's hands. I worked on the thing for so long, I was starting to wonder if I'd ever finish it!
And to make matters more exciting, I've been invited by ARBP to speak about Ramblings on REALbasic next Wed, Oct 28, 2009 at 8pm EST. So if you'd like to chat about the book or REALbasic, then please join me! I watched the chat with Geoff last month, and it's actually a pretty fun little setting. Should be a blast!
If you've not gotten your copy of Ramblings on REALbasic, you should order your copy today!
Cool beans !
Disappointed I have to miss the chat (it's bowling night) :(
Sometimes the global village sucks.
I can't get the book over here and I should be in bed when the chat happens.
Hope the book is selling well.
@Steve -- I've been trying to find a way to sell internationally, and I now see why you guys can't get the book. The trouble isn't selling it to you, that's a breeze. The problem is getting the book to you. I called FedEx, and to ship the book internationally would be at least 70$ USD. That's just ridiculous! USPS is just as expensive for international shipping.
So if any of your non-Americans can think of a creative way for me to ship books to you for a reasonable price, I'm all ears. I want to have a global distribution of the book, but shipping has been the problem area.
What about instead of one at a time you sent a bunch to some kind of distributor ?
Would that make it more cost effective per book ?
Amazon.com are out of stock, but quoting about £6 for delivery at standard rate (i.e. 30 days) which is not too bad.
Amazon.co.uk .fr and .de don't have it listed.
Perhaps have your publishers see if a UK/EU distribution agent would be interested? (I'm assuming it is too much of a niche product for a UK/EU publisher to be interested in an edition yet).
Maybe you could also offer your book through a print-on-demand service. E.g. if you sell it via lulu.com, the book will be printed in a location geographically close to the customer and shipped at a reasonable rate.
Or maybe it would be possible to arrange with REAL Software to get some books to their European offices and/or their international distribution partners?
The mention of distributors got me thinking earlier -- I've contacted REAL Software to see if there's a way for them to distribute the book through their international distributors. If something like that were to happen (we're still in very early talks), I'm sure you'll hear about it.
As a book publisher (also), please order your book from Aaron directly I ordered mine via Amazon because I could not wait for it to come (it did Thursday and its an addictive read), but when we sell books thru Amazon we get so little for them its almost a loss (especially when you consider the shipping costs).
The book is great, its about more than just Realbasic (which I found just as interesting if not more so) and get it HERE!
I ordered my copy on Amazon.com and their price is $59.99 plus shipping and handling to Switzerland is $7.98.
I'm sorry if you do not earn well when we order through Amazon, but their shipping cost remains relativly low, even for shipping around the globe to Switzerland: $8 instead of $70 (FedEx)!
I received a 'shipped' confirmation last friday, so I'm looking forward to it!
Just got mine today here in Canada !
Nicely done !
