After much pain, I've upgrade to the MT 4 version of Movable Type. And true to form, Movable Type is the largest pile of crap on the face of the planet. I was upgrading from 3.3, and while initially everything seemed fine, it turns out that really... MT can't handle large blogs very well. Comments went wonky, archives got hosed, etc. It's still not working properly -- comments come in fine, but no matter how hard I try to publish said comments, they never actually show up on the main page. The only way I found to get new comments

Just so everyone's aware, the blog has been moved from an old, bad server to a new, pretty (or so I've been told) server. So if you experience anything out of the ordinary, please let me know. I'm pretty sure I got everyone's comments over, and all the old posts, etc. But things always manage to slip through the cracks (like RSS feeds and other things). The current plan is to also try to upgrade my copy of Movable Type. However, to say that MT migrates data poorly is to understate the situation drastically. ;-) Once the upgrade happens, I'll
Those of you who know me know how well web programming and I get along (not at all). So it was with much trepidation that I tried to tackle the RSS feed issue the awesome Steve Novoselac kept running into. However, it turned out to be a poor choice of default values in the RSS feed templates. For whatever reason, my Atom and RSS 2.0 templates had convert_breaks set to "0" instead of "1." After hunting around in the templates for a while, I spotted the goof-up and fixed it. So from here on out, the RSS feeds should be
Due to a horrendous amount of trackback spam over the last two days (about 300 trackbacks), I've turned trackbacks off entirely. I've not seen any good use of them in the years I've been blogging (I'm the only one who ever trackbacks my own postings anyhow), so I think this will be a permanent change. If anyone has any opinions on this though (which I doubt), feel free to voice them. I just wanted to give a heads up in case someone had their heart set on being able to trackback one of my posts. :-P
Yup, that's right -- finally on the new servers I've been talking about for so long. With the gracious assistance of Adam from babbage-tech, we got the sites up and running tonight with relatively little problems. If you notice some bugs, please report them here. There are some known issues, however: 1) The main page shows 0 comments for all old posts, but the comments really are there. 2) The old [rbcode] tags show up and code isn't formatted as expected. This will hopefully change once we get a good syntax highlighting plugin for MT. So let me know what
